Your pile of shame, as an actual number

The pile is easy to ignore while it lives in a cupboard you stopped opening. Hobby Armory counts it model by model and army by army, so you know exactly how big it is, then shows it shrinking.

  • Counted per model
  • Split by army
  • No typing out boxes

A number instead of a feeling

Ask a collector how big their backlog is and you get a shrug and a guess. The guess is always low. Because every miniature in Hobby Armory carries its own step, the app knows exactly how many are still unbuilt, unprimed or unpainted, and in which army.

Sort a system by status and the boxes nobody has touched rise to the top, each with its own count.

Every kind of model, across every box

The Miniatures view turns the collection around: one row per kind of miniature, counted across all the boxes it came in. It is where you find out you own three boxes of the same character, or that 60 units still have something unpainted in them.

Then watch it shrink

Set a monthly goal for how many models to build or paint and the year chart shows whether you are keeping up. The streak counts the days you changed something, and the Workbench on the home screen keeps the current project in view so it does not join the pile.

Getting the pile into the app is the easy part

The reason most backlogs never get counted is the typing. Over 3,000 Warhammer 40,000, Age of Sigmar, The Old World, Warcry and Underworlds sets are already in Hobby Armory with their contents, so each box is one search. Battleboxes are split per army, so the Space Marine half of a starter set lands in the Space Marine count.

Once the pile is in, the rest of the app works on it: recipes for the next squad, the paint tracker for progress, and an army builder that tells you which of your lists you could field painted today.

FAQ

Pile of shame questions

What is a pile of shame?

It is the hobby's name for the miniatures you bought and have not built or painted yet. Most collectors have one, and most underestimate it.

How does Hobby Armory count my pile of shame?

Per model, not per box. Every miniature carries its own step, so the backlog is the exact number of models still at bought, built or primed, and you can see which army it is hiding in.

Do I have to type in my whole collection?

No. Over 3,000 sets are already in the app with their contents. You search for each box and it is added with every miniature in it, which is the only way a big backlog gets counted at all.

Can I see which kinds of models are unpainted?

Yes. The Miniatures view lists every kind of model you own across all your boxes, grouped into not started, in progress and completed, with a count of units that still have unpainted models.

Will it help me actually shrink the pile?

That is the idea. Monthly goals, a year activity chart, a streak and achievements turn the backlog into something you can see moving, and the Workbench keeps the current project in front of you.
