How It Works

It all starts with your collection

Add a set once and the rest of the app comes to life. Your army lists, paint recipes, and progress all branch off the same collection, so change something in one place and it updates everywhere.

Your Collection One place for every set and mini you own
Army Builder
Alpha

Build a list and instantly see what's already in your case and what you still need to buy. Covers 40K 10th and 11th edition, Age of Sigmar, Kill Team and Spearhead, tracks points, and imports .ros & .rosz files.

Paint Recipes & Rack

Save your colour recipes step by step, add a finished photo, and pin them to the exact minis in your collection. The Paint Rack knows which paints you actually own, so every recipe tells you what you can start today.

Progress & Goals

Set a monthly painting goal, watch your activity chart fill up over the year, and keep a wishlist of the sets you still want.

Paint Status

Follow every mini from sprue to shelf

One status per miniature, kept in sync across your collection, armies, and wishlist.

Everything your hobby actually needs

HobbyArmory follows the way people really collect Warhammer, from that first box you grabbed to a fully painted army on the table.

Collection Tracker

No typing out box names

Every current Warhammer 40,000 and Age of Sigmar set is already in the app, right down to the miniatures inside each box. Search, tap, and it is in your collection. Then add your own photos so it is your models you see, not stock shots. More game systems are on the way.

  • Search by set or faction and get instant results
  • Upload your own photos for any set or individual mini
  • Make custom sets for kitbashes or anything that's missing
  • Sort by faction, game system, or your own grouping
  • Send sets you don't own yet straight to your wishlist
Army Builder Alpha · early test

The army builder that knows what's in your case

The army builder talks to your collection. As you add units it checks them against the minis you own, so you can see at a glance what's ready to go and what still needs buying or building. More on the Warhammer army builder

  • Supports Warhammer 40K (10th and 11th edition) and Age of Sigmar (4th edition)
  • Kill Team and Spearhead are supported as their own formats, alongside Combat Patrol
  • Live ownership check that shows "21 minis to buy" as you build
  • Points totals per detachment and for the whole list
  • Import .ros / .rosz lists from other list builders
  • Share a list by link, or as text or a PDF for an opponent
Paint Recipe Book

Never forget how you painted it

Write down your recipes step by step, with thousands of Citadel, Vallejo, and Army Painter colours already in the app. Then paint from them: painting mode walks you through the steps, ticks them off as you go, and keeps the clock running while you work. More on the paint recipe app

  • Thousands of real paint colours across the major brands
  • Step-by-step format with a note on each stage
  • Painting mode that ticks off each step while you work
  • Every colour recommends matching paints, including ones you own
  • One finished photo per recipe
  • Pin recipes to specific minis in your collection
  • Share as text, a link, or import straight into the app
Paint Rack

The app knows what is on your shelf

Mark the paints you own, keep a wishlist of the ones you want, and add your own custom paints and mixes. From there the app stops guessing. Every colour it shows you comes with matching paints from the brands and from your own rack, so a recipe tells you what you can start tonight and what you still have to buy.

  • Owned paints, a paint wishlist, and your own custom paints and mixes
  • Convert to the closest colour in another brand's range, or convert a whole recipe at once
  • Mix two paints and see what they really make, so you can reach a colour you do not own
  • Wheel shows how well your paints cover the colour space, and where the gaps are
  • Ladder turns one colour into the highlights and shadows that go with it
  • Scheme builds a full palette from a single colour and saves it as a recipe
  • Palette pulls the colours out of a photo, and tapping one outlines it on the model
Painting Time

See where your hobby time actually goes

Start the clock when you sit down and it runs while you work through the recipe. Building counts too, so the evening you spent clipping and gluing a box is on the record. It all adds up per recipe and per miniature, which is how you finally learn what a squad really costs you.

  • A timer built into painting mode, running while you tick off steps
  • Separate building sessions for clipping, cleaning, and gluing
  • Totals per recipe and per miniature, and for everything together
  • Sessions survive closing the app, so nothing is lost mid-evening
  • Pick an interrupted session back up instead of starting a new one
Goals & Progress

Chip away at the pile of shame

Set a goal for how many minis you want to build, paint, or finish this month, and watch your activity chart fill in over the year. Little wins add up, and you will unlock achievements as your collection grows. More on the paint tracker and the pile of shame tracker

  • Monthly goals for bought, built, painted, and finished
  • Year and quarter activity charts with your goal lines
  • A painting streak to keep the momentum going
  • Achievements tied to real collection milestones
Game Systems

The games you actually play

Each system has its own factions, set contents, and look inside the app. Two are live, with more being built.

FAQ

Questions, answered

What is HobbyArmory?
HobbyArmory is a free Warhammer collection tracker app for Warhammer 40,000 and Age of Sigmar. Every set is already in the database, so you add miniatures by searching instead of typing them out. From there you track your painting, build army lists, and save your paint recipes in one place. It is in beta on Android and iOS.
Is HobbyArmory free?
Yes. It is completely free during the beta and every feature is included. We have not decided on pricing for the full release yet.
How does the sets database work?
Every current Warhammer 40,000 and Age of Sigmar set is already in the app, including the individual miniatures in each box. You just search for your set and add it, with no manual entry. We keep the database updated as new sets come out.
Which editions and list formats does the army builder support?
The army builder supports Warhammer 40K 10th and 11th edition and Age of Sigmar 4th edition, plus Combat Patrol, Kill Team and Spearhead as their own formats. It imports .ros and .rosz roster files, so it plays nicely with other popular list builders.
Can I track each miniature in a box separately?
Yes. Every set lists its individual minis, and you can set the paint status of each one on its own. Those changes show up automatically in your armies, wishlist, and progress.
What paint brands are in the recipe book?
Thousands of colours from Citadel, Vallejo, The Army Painter and other major brands are already loaded. You can write step-by-step guides and attach a photo to each recipe. Citadel paints carry the Warhammer Paints label alongside them.
Can HobbyArmory track which paints I own?
Yes, that is the Paint Rack. Mark off the paints you own, keep a wishlist of the ones you want, and add your own custom paints and mixes. It runs through the whole recipe book, so wherever a colour turns up the app suggests matching paints from the brands and from what is actually on your shelf.
Can I convert a recipe to paints from another brand?
Yes. Convert finds the closest colour in another brand's range, and it can do a whole recipe in one go. Matching works on real colour distance rather than comparing hex codes, and when nothing in the catalogue is genuinely close the app says so instead of handing you a bad match.
Can the app pull paint colours out of a photo?
Yes. Add a photo to Palette from Image and it works out which colours are in it. Tap one and it is outlined on the photo so you can see exactly where it sits, and Noir and Values views help you judge contrast. Every extracted colour is matched against real paints and against your own Paint Rack.
Does HobbyArmory track how long I spend painting?
Yes. A timer runs inside painting mode while you work through a recipe, and building sessions cover the clipping and gluing. Time adds up per recipe and per miniature, sessions carry on if you close the app, and you can pick an interrupted one back up rather than starting again.
Which platforms does HobbyArmory run on?
Android (beta on Google Play) and iOS (beta via TestFlight). A desktop web version is in the works but isn't available yet.
Is HobbyArmory a paint recipe tracker?
Yes. It has a full paint recipe book with thousands of Citadel, Vallejo and Army Painter colours already loaded. You write recipes step by step, attach a photo of the finished model, and pin them to the exact minis in your collection so you never lose a scheme. Read more about the Warhammer paint recipe app.
Can I use HobbyArmory as a Warhammer paint tracker?
Yes. Every miniature carries one of five statuses: bought, built, primed, painted or finished. Set monthly painting goals, watch a year activity chart fill in, and keep a painting streak going. Read more about the Warhammer paint tracker.
Does HobbyArmory track my pile of shame?
It does, and it counts it per miniature rather than per box, so you get a real number instead of a vague pile. You can see which army the backlog is hiding in, then set goals and watch it shrink. Read more about the pile of shame tracker.
Is the Warhammer army builder free?
Yes, it is free during the beta along with everything else. It covers 40K 10th and 11th edition, Age of Sigmar 4th edition, Kill Team and Spearhead, checks each unit against the models you own, and imports .ros and .rosz roster files. Read more about the Warhammer army builder.
Can I use HobbyArmory as a Warhammer army tracker?
Yes. Sets can be grouped into armies, so instead of one long collection list you see each army as its own project with its own model count, points and painting progress. An army can be active, completed or archived, and tracking follows the miniatures that actually belong to it rather than whole boxes.
Is there a separate Age of Sigmar army builder?
Age of Sigmar is built on its own terms rather than sharing a 40K layout, with regiments, battle formations, Armies of Renown, lores and Spearhead as its own format. See the Age of Sigmar army builder or the Warhammer 40K army builder, which also covers Combat Patrol and Kill Team, for how each one works.
When are The Old World and Horus Heresy coming?
Both are in active development and will be added in a future update. Join the Discord to hear when they land.
