A Warhammer 40K army builder that knows what you already own
Most 40K list builders hand you a legal army that exists only on paper. Hobby Armory checks every unit against the models in your collection as you add it, so a finished 2000 point list also tells you what is still in the box.
- 10th and 11th edition
- Combat Patrol and Kill Team
- .ros and .rosz import

A 40K list builder that reads your collection
Writing the list is the easy part. The part no list builder helps with is the evening before the game, when you lay out the army and find the Intercessors you counted twice are the same five models, or that the character the whole detachment leans on is still in shrinkwrap.
The Hobby Armory army builder sits on top of the collection you already track, down to the single model inside each box. As units go in, it counts them against what you own. By the time the points add up you are holding a roster and a shopping list.
- Units owned and models painted, shown on every list
- The unit picker filtered to your collection in one tap
- Validation issues flagged while you build, not at the table

10th and 11th edition, kept apart
10th edition is supported in full, and 11th edition is built around its new structure with multiple detachments and Detachment Points, using the real 11th edition datasheets and detachment rules. You choose the edition when you start a list and the app never mixes rules from both.
- Detachments with their rule, enhancements and stratagems attached
- Enhancements on the right character, their points in the total
- Wargear picked model by model with datasheet defaults filled in
- Allies such as Agents of the Imperium, Imperial Knights and Chaos Daemons, with their caps applied
- Warlord, Epic Hero and duplicate rules checked as you go

Kill Team, built as Kill Team
Kill Team is its own game in the app, not a 40K list with a smaller points limit. Pick a team, the operatives it has to take are added for you, and the team rules and equipment stay with the roster. Operatives are matched back to your collection like any squad.
Combat Patrol is its own format too, with its own restrictions, which makes it a good place to start when the collection is one box deep. The Kill Team app

Then play it
Lists go straight into the Battle Hub. Pick missions from the current Chapter Approved pack, roll a deployment, then track command points, victory points and wounds as you play, on one phone or with your opponent on theirs. Before the game, the combat simulator tells you what a unit is likely to do to its target.

Every faction, and every Space Marine chapter
The full 40K roster is in the builder. Imperium covers Space Marines, Astra Militarum, Adepta Sororitas, Adeptus Custodes, Adeptus Mechanicus, Grey Knights, Imperial Knights and Agents of the Imperium. Chaos covers Chaos Space Marines, Death Guard, Thousand Sons, World Eaters, Emperor's Children, Chaos Daemons and Chaos Knights. Xenos covers Aeldari, Drukhari, Necrons, Orks, T'au Empire, Tyranids, Genestealer Cults and Leagues of Votann.
Space Marine players pick a chapter rather than a generic codex. Ultramarines, Blood Angels, Dark Angels, Space Wolves, Black Templars and Deathwatch draw on the shared Space Marine datasheets while keeping their own detachments and characters, which is how the game actually works.
Bring your existing 40K lists with you
Nothing needs retyping. The builder imports .ros and .rosz roster files, the format the other well known 40K list builders write, detachments and enhancements included, in 10th or 11th edition. Lists go back out as plain text or a PDF for an opponent or tournament organiser, and share by link with anyone else running Hobby Armory.
From list to painted army
Every model in the army carries its paint status, so a 2000 point list also shows how much of it is finished and how much is still grey. Change a status once and it moves in the list, in your painting progress and in your backlog at the same time. If you also play in the Mortal Realms, the Age of Sigmar army builder works the same way off the same collection.
Warhammer 40K army builder questions
Is there a free Warhammer 40K army builder app?
Yes. The Hobby Armory 40K army builder is free during the beta on Android and iOS, with every feature included and nothing locked behind a subscription.
Which Warhammer 40,000 editions does it support?
Both 10th and 11th edition. You pick the edition when you start a list, and 11th edition lists use the real 11th edition datasheets with multiple detachments and Detachment Points, not 10th edition data with a new label.
Does it show which models I already own?
Yes. Every list shows how many of its units you own, how many models are painted and how many you still need. The unit picker can be switched to show only what is in your collection.
Can I pick wargear and loadouts?
Yes. Weapons and options are chosen model by model, with the datasheet defaults already filled in, so you only change what you built differently.
Does it handle Space Marine chapters?
Yes. Ultramarines, Blood Angels, Dark Angels, Space Wolves, Black Templars and Deathwatch are picked as chapters over the Space Marine codex, so they get the shared datasheets plus their own detachments and characters.
Can I import a BattleScribe or New Recruit 40K list?
Yes. The builder imports .ros and .rosz roster files and text exported from the official app, so an existing army comes in rather than being retyped. Lists go back out as text, a PDF or a share link.
Does it support Combat Patrol and Kill Team?
Yes. Combat Patrol is its own format with its own restrictions, and Kill Team is its own game with teams, operatives and team rules. Both can be played in the Battle Hub. More about Kill Team.
Can I simulate my 40K units against each other?
Yes. The combat simulator in the Battle Hub works out the exact odds of one unit shooting or fighting another, or every unit of one list against every target of another, under 10th or 11th edition rules. How the simulator works.
